Ingredients:
  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 3 tablespoons sour cream
  • Royal icing and sprinkles for decorating

Instructions:
  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and baking powder.
  3. In a large bowl, beat together butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in egg, vanilla extract, almond extract, and sour cream.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until combined.
  5. Roll dough into 1-inch balls and place on prepared baking sheets. Flatten slightly with the bottom of a glass.
  6. Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until edges are lightly golden. Let cool on baking sheets for 5 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.

Ingredients:
  • 1 whole turkey (12-14 pounds), thawed
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 tablespoons fresh rosemary, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons fresh thyme, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons fresh sage, finely chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 1 lemon, quartered
  • 1 onion, quartered
  • 2 carrots, cut into large pieces
  • 2 celery stalks, cut into large pieces

Instructions:
  1. Preheat oven to 325°F (165°C).
  2. In a small bowl, mix together butter, rosemary, thyme, sage, garlic, salt, and pepper.
  3. Rinse the turkey inside and out, pat dry with paper towels. Loosen the skin over the breasts and rub the herb butter underneath the skin and all over the outside of the turkey.
  4. Place the lemon, onion, carrots, and celery inside the cavity of the turkey.
  5. Place the turkey on a rack in a roasting pan. Pour chicken broth into the bottom of the pan.
  6. Roast the turkey for 3 to 3 1/2 hours, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C) in the thickest part of the thigh.
  7. Let the turkey rest for 20 minutes before carving.
